Welcome
from Information Technology Services
As the 2007 fall semester gets started, Information Technology
Services (ITS) is already in the midst of another exciting year.
With many projects underway and more to be implemented over the
next several months, we thank you in advance for your continued
support and cooperation. This newsletter (published each fall)
is just one way that we share information about the various
services we offer and how different technologies are being used
at the university.
A few highlights include:
· The
university’s main Web page has been redesigned. The new graphic
design, coupled with enhanced access to the three schools, is
sure to provide an improved experience to all who visit the
site.
· The
Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario regional campus has moved to a new
location. With an increase in the number of technology-enabled
classrooms (over the past location) and a computer lab, the new
space is poised for the future.
· More
faculty members are making use of instructional technology. The
use of clickers in the classroom is gaining in popularity in
both the Sciences and Communicative Disorders. Blackboard, the
university’s learning management system, is seeing a record
number of faculty users. Over 100 College of Arts and Sciences
faculty members are posting materials in more than 250 course
sites.
We hope that this newsletter serves as an overview of the many
services our department offers. If you have suggestions and/or
recommendations, please do
not hesitate to contact me at extension 8303 or by e-mail at
hamid_etesamnia@redlands.edu.

University Web Page - New Slogan and Improved Visibility
The
importance of a Web site as an indispensable marketing and
resource tool would be hard to dispute.
For a university, it is an important way to attract, inform,
engage and retain visitors. In August 2007, University of
Redlands unveiled its newly-designed home page for
www.redlands.edu.
This
new main page reflects months of consultation work
regarding both
content and the visual design. The “We”
campaign slogan, a main focal point of the page,
highlights the historical aspects of the university while
keeping an eye on the future. The visual message found on the
Web site matches a new print campaign and together they
reinforce the university’s central brand.
In addition, the university’s home page provides improved
visibility for the School of Business and the School of
Education. Current, incoming and prospective students who use
the visually-enhanced links (found on the right-hand side of the
page) will find a wealth of information on the newly created
“landing” pages.
Look for more changes later in the academic year as the
university embarks on a redesign of the complete Web site. Input
for this
redesign will be sought from across the campus.
